Sway Seaweed Packaging
Sway is a biomaterials company based in the Bay Area that is focused on integrating seaweed based alternatives for plastic into the world. As a sustinability based design studio, Sway reached out to Guacamole Airplane for assistance in ideating, designing and prototyping early proofs of concepts with some of their first rolls of seaweed film. These films ranged a variety of finishes, thicknesses, textures, and even colors. My role with Guacamole Airplane was to tackle the challenge of designing and prototyping different applications for where we could use Sway’s seaweed based films in packaging. I was a key player in coming up with structural concepts, sketching, hand cutting and assembling prototypes, and photographing and filming the whole process. We worked in collaboration with Julia Marsh, CEO and Founder of Sway, to find the best application solutions for using seaweed film. We were able to provide Sway with a variety of concept proofs for future pilots and partnerships. These concepts include polybags, windows, wraps, closures, and ties, with dielines. Scope: Concept Sketching, Hand Prototyping, Dieline Development, 3D Mockups, Creation of Layered Artwork Files, Photography
